Can I do The Following...

Hi all,

I'm investigating different .Net query building tools to possibly consider for use in an application I'm involved with. I've run the Active Query Builder Demo App and I had some questions. If anyone could answer them for me I'd greatly appreciate it.

1.) I have a lot of fields that can only be populated with a predefined list of values; but in the demo all I've seen so far is that I am able to enter a free-form criteria. Is there a way to make that criteria field a limit-to-list drop down?

2.) At first glance, it seems like criteria I enter is 'AND'ed with the previous criteria and I have 3 'Or's for each criteria. How can I do more complex queries like SELECT * FROM WHATEVER WHERE (A = B AND (C = D OR E = F OR (G=H AND K<>L))). I hope that makes sense, I'm just asking how to nest the criteria in ()s and join lines with or's and not ANDs.

Thanks in advance

Dear Rob,

Thank you for your questions.

1) The current version allows you to enter only free-form criteria. The only way you can customize this is creating a custom criteria editor that will be opened by clicking on the ellipsis button. But the user still would be able to enter criteria in a free form.

2) The best way to see, how this query will be represented visually is to enter you SQL to the text editor (at the bottom in all demos) and click on the query builder to parse your SQL text.

Actually, I agree that this part of our component is not very user-friendly, especially for those who are new to building SQL queries. We are going to change this part of a control to make it easier in the next version that will be available this year later.
